26. Jack Rodwell - 2009/10

We Owe Benfica One

Benfica come to Goodison on Thursday after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Portuguese title rivals Sporting Braga. Jack wants Everton to show Benfica what a good team we are.

Jack says: "We feel good about the performance against Villa but not about the result. It is playing on our minds that we need a win and the perfect time to get that is on Thursday at Goodison. The defeat over in Portugal was difficult to take. In the first 45 minutes we were as good, if not better than Benfica, but in the second half we were not at the races and our heads dropped. Now they have got to come to our ground and we have to show Benfica what a good side we are. We owe Benfica one and we owe it to ourselves. Hopefully on Thursday we can turn it around." (02/11/09)

Mature Beyond His Years

Jack the Lad has got the lot. A top player in the making, film star good looks (so my 14yr old Daughter tells me), and a maturity off the pitch to go with it all, yer sod.

Anyhow Jack like the rest of us is delighted with the three points against Blackburn, and he thinks with the quality of squuuuuadddd we have at our disposal this term, we can repeat last season's highs. Jesus lets hope so Jacko, I may even let you take my Daughter out as well, when she's 18 like.

Jack The Lad says: "To get three points in the Premier League to lift us off the bottom and we can now get confidence from that and hopefully kick start our season. It seems to be all or nothing for us - we're either not doing too well or we go and score three or four. It's about getting that balance right throughout the season now and start picking up more points.

It just takes time. We've got a good squad now, good players, it’s like last season, we had a slow start but then kicked off again." (22/09/09)

Ideal For Europe

After a man of the match display and 2 goals against Sigma Olomouc, Moyesy has praised his young gun on becoming Everton's youngest European goalscorer.

Moyesy says: "Jack is going to be a good player with really good potential. We will continue to nurture him along as we have done with our young players in the past. But tonight he showed what he is - a very good player in European football who can control the ball. He is that as well at international level. And in the nitty gritty of the Premier League that will come with age and experience as well."

Jack says: "It`s brilliant to break records and be in the history books but the most important thing was getting the win. Once the first goal went in, we all lifted our games and you could see the confidence coming through in our passing. This was a massively important game for us, one that we had to win to stay in the competition, so to score and make a big contribution makes it the best night of my career. But we have got to keep moving forward. We might have a good lead but the tie isn`t over. We`ve got a 4-0 lead and we`ve got to keep it." (21/08/09)

Moyesy's My Mentor

Jack Rodwell dispelled any ridiculous rumours that he is about to leave Everton, by telling Blues fans that Moyesy is making him into a better player. Manure if you read the rags were said to be sniffing around Jack, but it looks like Sir Alex will have to make do without this rising star.

Jack says: "He's (Moyes) been amazing. He's a great gaffer to have - he's helped me a lot because I'm young. He puts his trust and faith into the youngsters as you've seen over the past years, which is good for me and good for the youngsters coming through at Everton." (01/07/09)
