8. Segundo Castillo 2008/09

Back To Serbia

Segundo's one-season loan is over and he is heading back to Red Star Belgrade in Serbia. He played for his country last week in Ecuador's 2-0 win over Argentina. Segundo played 13 times for Everton and scored 1 goal against Standard Liege. (13/06/09)

Spanish Club In For Segundo

Segundo has received an offer from Spanish side Almeria. Everton have first option to secure the Ecuador international on a permanent deal. With the end of a 12-month loan from Red Star Belgrade, Moyesy will have to decide if £4.5m is too high for a fringe player.

Segundo says: “Almeria have been interested ever since last year. They wanted me for the last six months of the season, and today they are offering me a longer deal. We will see if we can find a good agreement with them.” (27/05/09)

I Want To Stay

Segundo wants to stay as long after his season loan finishes. But he knows he has to play more games to impress all at Everton. Good luck Segundo

Segundo says: "Obviously I have to wait and see what happens at the end of the season but I really want to stay. In order to guarantee it I need to be out there on the field showing what I can do. Obviously the ultimate decision is down to he manager and the directors.

"If he thinks I can bring something to this Club then hopefully he'll lengthen the period of the contract. It's just about working hard and making that decision easier for him to make. It would be marvellous to stay, the Club is a great institution and a great place to play."(25/12/08)

I Want To Play

With only four games under his belt for Everton, Segundo is desperate for a game. The last time he played he lasted only until half-time in the Carling Cup defeat at Blackburn Rovers two months ago.

Segundo says: “With every training session and every appearance I get for the reserves and the first team it’s important I improve, and do so on a day-to-day basis. I’m just dying for that opportunity to show again what I can do and what I can bring to the team. You’ve always got to aim for the first team but I’ve been having to show a bit of patience so far. The main thing is to be ready and to keep on working so I’m at the disposal of the manager when he needs me.

I’ve settled in and I’ve adapted well to the way football is played here. It’s just a case of trying to get that consistency which will get me a regular place in the first team. Hopefully if I can show myself in training and with the reserves that will come.” (27/11/08)

Derby Win For The Amazing Fans

Segundo is looking forward to his first derby game and hoping for a win to give the Everton fans something to shout about.

Segundo says: "This will be my first Merseyside derby. The other players have spoken to me a lot about the atmosphere. I have seen many television images and the people go crazy in the stadium. This Saturday it will be a massive spectacle; Liverpool has not lost yet and we are unbeaten at home. We want to be the first to defeat them so we can bring enormous satisfaction to our amazing fans." (26/09/08)

Arteta Impressed

Mikel was impressed with Segundo's Man Of The Match display against Standard Liege, which included a stunning goal.

Mikel says: "I think Castillo has done really well already and it was a shame Fellaini was unavailable because he is also looking like a great player. They are players with aggression and I think they can be here for a long time." (21/09/08)

Confident Of Progressing In UEFA Cup

New Everton signing is confident not only of beating Standard Liege tonight, but going all the way.

Segundo says: "I think we can win it, we are a great club and we have got a great manager. I am very, very pleased to be part of this team because it is going places. It is up to the players to get our heads down, make it happen and take us forward.

"We have to get further than we did last year and it is up to us to make that happen. They will try and catch us on the break and we will have to be careful with how we go about things and how we get possession and how we use it. It will not be free flowing because they will come here with a defensive job in mind." (18/09/08)

Give Debut Boy Time To Settle

Segundo joined Marouane Fellaini in making his debut for Everton on Sunday. He played the holding midfield role and looked comfortable on the ball, whilst making a few telling tackles.

Moyesy says: "The hardest thing was to try and get those players integrated, and I think after playing Stoke the two boys might wonder what they have come to England for. They will be thinking 'is it always like this?' But it takes time for players to settle, especially when they are coming in from another country and another culture." (16/09/08)

The New Cars

Moyesy doesn't see new record signing Marouane Fellaini as the new Carsley, but thinks Segundo fits the bill.

Moyesy says: “I don’t think for a minute that he (Fellaini) is another Lee Carsley. I see Castillo as being the one who will play like Cars." (03/09/08)

Dream Move

Segundo has completed his one year loan deal with Everton and will wear the number 8 shirt. The 26-year-old defensive midfielder is available for tomorrow's game against Portsmouth. The Ecuador international made 72 appearances for Red Star Belgrade, scoring 18 goals. He played in the 2006 World cup, including a 1-0 defeat by England.

Segundo says: “I have been waiting to take my chance to play in the Premier League and it’s a dream come true. It’s difficult in the Premier League because there are many big clubs but Everton have a good group and I think we can do a good job in both the Premier League and Uefa Cup. As a club Everton should always be fighting for honours.

I’m happy to have signed a contract and I’m looking forward to doing my best for the team. I’m a good defender but I always look to score goals. I may have to wait for a chance because this is a team of good players, but I will aim to do my best."

Moyesy says: "We've got him on loan for a year so we will all have a chance to see him - me and the supporters alike. He's an Ecuador international and we've seen him on the tapes. We have been looking for a midfielder and this has become available to us so here we are." (29/08/08)
