LARGEST
COLLECTION OF FOOTBALL MEMORABILIA IN THE WORLD TO BE UNVEILED

Over 18,000 items of football memorabilia
are set to be unveiled to the public as part of the worlds
most comprehensive football archive.
The oldest Manchester United programme,
Alan Balls famous white boots and 1966 World Cup memorabilia
form part of the collection providing a
detailed football archive with items pre-dating the formation
of the Football League in 1888.
Due
to be unveiled this month in Liverpool, the collection is
supported by a significant grant from the Heritage Lottery
Fund and supported by Liverpool City Council with the Collection
housed, conserved and made available at Liverpool Record
Office in Central Library.
The
collection is extremely valuable both in a monetary and
historical sense as it illustrates and chronicles the formation
of the oldest Football League in the world. Featuring some
of footballs rarest artefacts, many pre-date the formative
years of the League.
The
launch of the collection is set to be an event of national
interest for all football fans alike as it consists of a
plethora of items from most football clubs, such as programmes,
season tickets, medals, trophies, shirts, boots, photographs,
contracts, handbooks and footballs. The Everton Collection
would not be in existence without support from the Heritage
Lottery Fund, which enabled the Collection to be acquired
in 2007 from David France and a project team to be funded
to work on cataloguing, conservation, digitisation and learning
activities.
The
collection has been valued at £1.2 million, but were
it to be broken up and sold separately, it could command
a price far in excess of this figure. With an unrivalled
collection of programmes dating from the 19th century, the
catalogue is being digitalised and available to view online.
With the Everton Club minute books, which cover the period
from 1887 to 1964 and comprise 10,000 newly digitalised
pages, this collection will provide an unparalleled resource
of searchable information.
Lord
Grantchester, Trustee of the Everton Collection Charitable
Trust says: "This exhibition is the culmination
of years of commitment to the history of football and seeing
the dream come to fruition is an extremely exciting prospect
for all involved. We hope that both children and adults
alike will see the value in what we have achieved in bringing
this collection together and we hope that it will be the
success that it deserves to be. The collection will be launched
with the major new exhibition, Everlution: The Everton Collection
in conjunction with a ground-breaking website and an extensive
learning programme." New Website The

The
Everton Collection Talks
With Peter Lupson
To
celebrate the launch of The Everton Collection, a series
of talks on the collection are to take place over the next
few months at the Central library in Liverpool city centre.
Monday
28th September - Joint Match Programmes -
Incredibly, only 12 years after the acrimonious split of
1892 when Liverpool emerged out of Everton, the two clubs
began publication of joint match programmes. From 1904 until
1935 more than 1,100 were produced. They contained not only
team line-ups but also news of important off-the- pitch
developments at both clubs and in the country more widely.
Wednesday 30th September -
St Domingo’s and the Birth of Everton FC -
The role of St Domingo Chapel in the creation of Everton
was crucial but little is known about the personalities
involved. Meet some of these early pioneers, including the
Rev. Ben Chambers, whose grave in Yorkshire was recently
restored and rededicated by Everton and Liverpool and who
was inducted this year into the Gwladys Street Hall of Fame.
Wednesday 11th November -
Houlding, Mahon and the Battle of Anfield
- As John Houlding’s grip on Everton tightened, tensions
within the committee grew intolerable. They came to a head
when Houlding raised the rent on the Anfield stadium to
an unacceptable level. After a ferocious battle with Houlding,
George Mahon led the exodus from Anfield to Goodison Park.
Monday 7th December - Reconciliation
and Forgiveness – The Cuff/McKenna Friendship
- In an amazing gesture of forgiveness and reconciliation
between the clubs, three Everton and three Liverpool players
carried Houlding’s coffin at his funeral in 1902. The bonds
between the clubs were further deepened through the remarkable
friendship of Will Cuff of Everton and John McKenna of Liverpool,
two powerful figures who had been on opposite sides during
the bitter split of 1892.
Wednesday 16th December -
William McGregor and the Birth of the Football League
- Everton were founder members of the Football League in
1888 and champions three years later. Liverpool joined the
Second Division in 1893 and were First Division champions
in 1901. Find out how the Football League was started and
meet its father, Scotsman William McGregor.
Sunday 20th December - Everton,
Liverpool and the Moores Family - Whether
Blue or Red, supporters of the city’s two great clubs owe
a huge debt of gratitude to the vision, energy and passion
of John Moores, founder of the Littlewood’s empire, who
did so much to establish them as driving forces in English
football and beyond. Learn more about this remarkable man
and his incredible achievements.
Peter Lupson is the author of “Across the Park” and “Thank
God for Football”. There will be an opportunity to buy signed
copies of his books at each event. All of these talks will
be held at 2.00pm in the Hornby Library, Central Library,
William Brown Street. Admisssion is free, but places are
limited. Tickets available from the Central Lending Help
Desk (Second Floor) or by ringing the ticket hotline on
0151 233 5829 (Quote Blue Kipper). (24/09/09)
Referee
Experiment
Nope
its not April so I can't get away with pulling the wool
over your eyes on this one, but tonight's Europa
Cup Group match at Goodison will have five
officials instead of the normal three. Two more refs will
be placed behind each goal to spot for goal line incidents
and any other infringements in their part of the pitch.
It is the brain child of Anglo Saxon lover and UEFA President
Michel Platini and it will be trailed in all Europa Cup
matches this evening.

Moyesy
is slightly mystified as he has been given no guidance on
how it will work, but like anything he is willing to give
it a go.
Moyesy
says:
"I don't understand it that well, I haven't seen it
in practice and we are a little bit in the dark about it.
I know the officials will be alongside the goals and they
will be allowed to go onto the pitch a little bit. Hopefully
it will help. If it helps decision-making, then let's give
it a go."
Michel
Platini says: "Ah qui, qui it is jobs for
ze boys, now were are my onions." (17/09/09)

They Are a Changing
Unbelievably
Bluekipper.com is 10 years old this seasonand to celebrate
that fact a few changes will be made to the web site. Yes
we will be coming into the 19th century with a slight site
re vamp which will offer you more up to date stories, easier
navigation and more features to peruse. We
will also be running a superb prize draw with a chance to
win a unique piece of Everton memorabilia to celebrate our
10th Anniversary.
The countdown has begun to the new Bluekipper.com
site, so lets look back over the years to see what major
stories we covered. Who can remember that fantastic day
when Sandro' Pistone played with his hair, remember when
Dickie Wright impersonated Frank Spencer, Archie Knox wielded
his weapon (ooh matron), and of course that wonderful day
when man landed on the moon, all covered by the BK Team.

Over the years there has been changes. The
original gang of Kipper, Sausage, Jogger, Lard and Keefer
got the ball rolling back in early September 1999. Keefer
left back in 2003 to pursue his dream of eating as many
penguin biscuits as is humanly possible. Lavo joined us
in the same year after serving a ten year stretch for debating
too vigorously. Ernie came on board back in 2005, and today
he still slices his melons albeit without Eric. So there
we have the gang today, who bring you shite news, shite
articles, shite photos, but hopefully a smile to your face
on a daily basis?
So then sit back and enjoy the next ten
years, and think about these profound questions. Will Sausage
ever get his hair cut, will Kipper finish the decade without
his Zimmer frame, will Ernie ever make up with Eric, will
Jogger ever move from the title of third cock, will Lard
ever get over his fear of bamboo shoots, and will Lavo ever
get through a day sober.
Let
the countdown begin ……(04/08/09)
