Help The Uni Blue

Daniel Green is a Blue at Uni in Merseyside and he needs our help, read below if you have ten mins of your time to help him out;

My name is Daniel Green and I am an Undergraduate student at Liverpool John Moores University, within the School of Physical Education, Sport and Dance.

I am currently undertaking a research study into the media’s influence/impact within the Premier League, with a particular focus upon Everton Football Club.

Specifically I am investigating, the importance of the media and how the emergence of SKY has changed and continues to change the running of football clubs and the Premier League. As part of the research I need to collect data from Everton Football season ticket holders to gauge how consumers respond to the impact of the media within their football club.

Roaring Success For Blue Santa Dash

Well played to the hundreds of Blues who turned out in the Annual pre Christmas Santa Dash, and took the time and the trouble to take part in a Blue Santa Suit. History shows that Santa originally wore Royal Blue and not shitty red, and those hardy souls above our proof of that.

On the serious side, lots of dosh was raised for the Everton Foundation with the monies going towards growing and improving numerous community programmes across Merseyside.

Please can we remind all participants that they will need to send in their sponsorship to Rowena Finn at The Everton Foundation, Goodison Park, Liverpool, L4 4EL by December 11.

The top ten fundraisers will receive a pair of tickets to the Birmingham match on December 20. Well played you Royal Blue loons. (09/12/09)

NSPCC Donation

Esther Rantzen made a special appearance at Goodison Park on Sunday to collect a cheque for just over £41k on behalf of the NSPCC, Everton's nominated charity for the 2008/2009 season.

Blues CEO Robert Elstone and defender Phil Jagielka were on hand to present Esther with the giant cheque on the pitch at half time during the derby match. Esther was a bit mystified what to do with the cheque, as it would not fit in her hand bag, Bobby Boy said Esther 'Thats Life', boom, boom.

During the 2008/2009 season Everton ran many initiatives to raise monies for the NSPCC, including the sale of the pink shirt and extensive matchday fundraising.

Esther asked The Jag when he would be playing again, and what he was doing in Benidorm in the Summer as she seen him everywhere, honest.

There is still name to send your suggestions in. Mail to lynne@mere.co.uk by Monday 30th November

A new type of Everton fan has arrived on Merseyside to support the Blues in the derby clash this weekend in the form of an incredible blue and white striped tarantula, which will be residing at the BugWorld Experience at Liverpool’s Albert Dock.

The spider’s unusual colour and markings have led to it being nicknamed the ‘Everton Spider’, but the BugWorld Experience is calling on Evertonians to name the eight-legged honorary Toffee.

We are looking for an Everton themed name fitting for such a phenomenal species, which truly does need to be seen to be believed. The stunning female spider is a Gooty Saphire Ornamental Tree Spider and its distinctive appearance is expected to make it one of the most popular and exciting exhibits at the interactive insectarium.
The unique tarantula will be going on display this Friday and we are inviting all visitors to Blue Kipper over the next week to send in their suggestions for a name for the latest addition to the Everton fan club. The name deemed the most fitting for the spider will be included on the plaque next to the display, with the winner receiving free tickets to the BugWorld Experience.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply e-mail your name suggestion to lynne@mere.co.uk by Monday 30th November.

The first interactive insectarium in the UK, the BugWorld Experience, shows visitors the world through a bug’s eyes, testing their bravery, wit and skill with interactive challenges and games along the way. Guided through simulated environments from a rainforest to a savannah to the everyday British home, visitors will see, find out about and even interact with the bugs that inhabit each. (24/11/09)

Charity Auction For The Beach Ball

Take part in a once in a lifetime charity auction where 100% of the proceeds go to Alder Hey Imagine Appeal. This is the infamous red beach ball that cost the redshite a defeat to Sunderland last month. The News of the World won a fierce bidding war with rival media organisations to secure the red ball, which caused a fluke goal after it was thrown onto the pitch by a redshite fan and deflected a shot by Darrent Bent. The newspaper has donated the ball to the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal. (13/11/09). Click here to make a bid.

Nuno Still An Evertonian

After playing 45 times for Everton and retiring last season, Nuno Valente is now Everton's scout in Portugal and has nailed his colours to the mast. After winning all there was to win in club football at FC Porto, the former Everton left back clearly wants Everton to beat Benfica.

Nuno says: “I work for Everton and it’s obvious that I want the best for the club I work for. I hope that Everton win. The Everton players had their pride wounded by the first match, and in the home match want to rectify the image they left. They want a different result to that in Lisbon. In that game they were missing a lot of important players, but the game at Goodison Park will certainly be very different. Everton want to win and know that if they do so the team is practically qualified for the next phase.” (05/11/09)

Unsey Joins Up With Alan Irvine

He won the Cup with us in 1995, and he is also famous for scoring the first goal of Moyesy's reign back in 2002. Everton stalwart David Unsworth is back in football and has joined up with another Everton old boy, Alan Irvine at Preston. Unsey who made 350 Royal Blue appearances netting 40 times, has become the new Development Coach at Deepdale.

You can see Unsey close hand as he has agreed to be one of ten special guests that will honour Joe Royle as our Bluekipper Icon of 2009.

Unsey says: "I will be working with first-year professionals and also doing some work with the reserves. I am made up to be taking my first steps in coaching with such a smashing club like Preston. I know the club, I know the area and I obviously know Alan Irvine very well, so it’s just about perfect for me." (28/09/09)

LARGEST COLLECTION OF FOOTBALL MEMORABILIA IN THE WORLD TO BE UNVEILED

Over 18,000 items of football memorabilia are set to be unveiled to the public as part of the worlds most comprehensive football archive.

The oldest Manchester United programme, Alan Balls famous white boots and 1966 World Cup memorabilia form part of the collection providing a
detailed football archive with items pre-dating the formation of the Football League in 1888.

Due to be unveiled this month in Liverpool, the collection is supported by a significant grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by Liverpool City Council with the Collection housed, conserved and made available at Liverpool Record Office in Central Library.

The collection is extremely valuable both in a monetary and historical sense as it illustrates and chronicles the formation of the oldest Football League in the world. Featuring some of footballs rarest artefacts, many pre-date the formative years of the League.

The launch of the collection is set to be an event of national interest for all football fans alike as it consists of a plethora of items from most football clubs, such as programmes, season tickets, medals, trophies, shirts, boots, photographs, contracts, handbooks and footballs. The Everton Collection would not be in existence without support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which enabled the Collection to be acquired in 2007 from David France and a project team to be funded to work on cataloguing, conservation, digitisation and learning activities.

The collection has been valued at £1.2 million, but were it to be broken up and sold separately, it could command a price far in excess of this figure. With an unrivalled collection of programmes dating from the 19th century, the catalogue is being digitalised and available to view online. With the Everton Club minute books, which cover the period from 1887 to 1964 and comprise 10,000 newly digitalised pages, this collection will provide an unparalleled resource of searchable information.

Lord Grantchester, Trustee of the Everton Collection Charitable Trust says: "This exhibition is the culmination of years of commitment to the history of football and seeing the dream come to fruition is an extremely exciting prospect for all involved. We hope that both children and adults alike will see the value in what we have achieved in bringing this collection together and we hope that it will be the success that it deserves to be. The collection will be launched with the major new exhibition, Everlution: The Everton Collection in conjunction with a ground-breaking website and an extensive learning programme." The Everton Collection Talks With Peter Lupson

To celebrate the launch of The Everton Collection, a series of talks on the collection are to take place over the next few months at the Central library in Liverpool city centre.

Monday 28th September - Joint Match Programmes - Incredibly, only 12 years after the acrimonious split of 1892 when Liverpool emerged out of Everton, the two clubs began publication of joint match programmes. From 1904 until 1935 more than 1,100 were produced. They contained not only team line-ups but also news of important off-the- pitch developments at both clubs and in the country more widely.

Wednesday 30th September - St Domingo’s and the Birth of Everton FC - The role of St Domingo Chapel in the creation of Everton was crucial but little is known about the personalities involved. Meet some of these early pioneers, including the Rev. Ben Chambers, whose grave in Yorkshire was recently restored and rededicated by Everton and Liverpool and who was inducted this year into the Gwladys Street Hall of Fame.

Wednesday 11th November - Houlding, Mahon and the Battle of Anfield - As John Houlding’s grip on Everton tightened, tensions within the committee grew intolerable. They came to a head when Houlding raised the rent on the Anfield stadium to an unacceptable level. After a ferocious battle with Houlding, George Mahon led the exodus from Anfield to Goodison Park.

Monday 7th December - Reconciliation and Forgiveness – The Cuff/McKenna Friendship - In an amazing gesture of forgiveness and reconciliation between the clubs, three Everton and three Liverpool players carried Houlding’s coffin at his funeral in 1902. The bonds between the clubs were further deepened through the remarkable friendship of Will Cuff of Everton and John McKenna of Liverpool, two powerful figures who had been on opposite sides during the bitter split of 1892.

Wednesday 16th December - William McGregor and the Birth of the Football League - Everton were founder members of the Football League in 1888 and champions three years later. Liverpool joined the Second Division in 1893 and were First Division champions in 1901. Find out how the Football League was started and meet its father, Scotsman William McGregor.

Sunday 20th December - Everton, Liverpool and the Moores Family - Whether Blue or Red, supporters of the city’s two great clubs owe a huge debt of gratitude to the vision, energy and passion of John Moores, founder of the Littlewood’s empire, who did so much to establish them as driving forces in English football and beyond. Learn more about this remarkable man and his incredible achievements.

Peter Lupson is the author of “Across the Park” and “Thank God for Football”. There will be an opportunity to buy signed copies of his books at each event. All of these talks will be held at 2.00pm in the Hornby Library, Central Library, William Brown Street. Admisssion is free, but places are limited. Tickets available from the Central Lending Help Desk (Second Floor) or by ringing the ticket hotline on 0151 233 5829 (Quote Blue Kipper). (24/09/09)

Referee Experiment

Nope its not April so I can't get away with pulling the wool over your eyes on this one, but tonight's Europa Cup Group match at Goodison will have five officials instead of the normal three. Two more refs will be placed behind each goal to spot for goal line incidents and any other infringements in their part of the pitch. It is the brain child of Anglo Saxon lover and UEFA President Michel Platini and it will be trailed in all Europa Cup matches this evening.

Moyesy is slightly mystified as he has been given no guidance on how it will work, but like anything he is willing to give it a go.

Moyesy says: "I don't understand it that well, I haven't seen it in practice and we are a little bit in the dark about it. I know the officials will be alongside the goals and they will be allowed to go onto the pitch a little bit. Hopefully it will help. If it helps decision-making, then let's give it a go."

Michel Platini says: "Ah qui, qui it is jobs for ze boys, now were are my onions." (17/09/09)

Times They Are a Changing

Unbelievably Bluekipper.com is 10 years old this seasonand to celebrate that fact a few changes will be made to the web site. Yes we will be coming into the 19th century with a slight site re vamp which will offer you more up to date stories, easier navigation and more features to peruse. We will also be running a superb prize draw with a chance to win a unique piece of Everton memorabilia to celebrate our 10th Anniversary.

The countdown has begun to the new Bluekipper.com site, so lets look back over the years to see what major stories we covered. Who can remember that fantastic day when Sandro' Pistone played with his hair, remember when Dickie Wright impersonated Frank Spencer, Archie Knox wielded his weapon (ooh matron), and of course that wonderful day when man landed on the moon, all covered by the BK Team.

Kipper

Jogger

Lard

Ernie

Sausage

Lavo

Over the years there has been changes. The original gang of Kipper, Sausage, Jogger, Lard and Keefer got the ball rolling back in early September 1999. Keefer left back in 2003 to pursue his dream of eating as many penguin biscuits as is humanly possible. Lavo joined us in the same year after serving a ten year stretch for debating too vigorously. Ernie came on board back in 2005, and today he still slices his melons albeit without Eric. So there we have the gang today, who bring you shite news, shite articles, shite photos, but hopefully a smile to your face on a daily basis?

So then sit back and enjoy the next ten years, and think about these profound questions. Will Sausage ever get his hair cut, will Kipper finish the decade without his Zimmer frame, will Ernie ever make up with Eric, will Jogger ever move from the title of third cock, will Lard ever get over his fear of bamboo shoots, and will Lavo ever get through a day sober.

Let the countdown begin ……(04/08/09)
