Collision Course

Hi all,
I can see what's coming, a collision and I don't like it. I do hope I'm wrong but it looks like the RS are heading for the Europa League and with us likely to end up second in our group!!???!!!
It is inevitable, they are like a bad dream or a black cloud hanging over us, that our courses will edge ever closer during the later stages of the competition and then, inevitably UEFA will stick their noses in to make sure we go out and they stay in. Perhaps UEFA will get Senor Collina to come out of retirement for one game - just for us - and stuff us again.
But then again Debrecan or whoever they are may thrash them and finish third but of course UEFA would never allow that.
In the meantime, I have to congratulate the manager, players and Mr Kenwright too for the spirit we are showing in such terribly skint and injury-stricken times. What a team - what a club, brilliant.
Mystic Nick. (11/11/09)

Proud To Be An Evertonian

Hi Lad great site, just had a look at your forces page, it makes me very very proud to be an Evertonian and British, I hope they all come home safe.

Steadying

Matt (Long suffering blah, blah…Not as much as anyone who has a season ticket near you I suspect!)

You thank David Moyes for “steadying the ship”??????

I’m speechless – you’re a moron

Rebuilding

I shall just take this chance to remind the fans that are slagging Matt LONG SUFFERING and Jack Warner for there negative comments what the club badge says NIL SATIS NISI OPTIMUM that translated for me is nothing but the best is good enough I do not see 5th twice making good progress with the limited budget written anywhere. No doubt Moyes has done a great job at are club but if some fans are happy with 5th and 4th you have no idea of the glorious history this club has.

No doubt football has changed due to t.v money and billionaire owners but start thinking we are a 5th to 10th placed club and thats all we shall ever be. I believe David Moyes has earned the right to continue in his rebuilding of are club but I like Moyes I suspect will not be happy or accept that we are not capable of bigger and better things. As for some fans claiming others should watch another club maybe they should think again as are club needs everybody regardless of there opinion and I am yet to meet a football fan who agrees 100% with everything there manager does. A Shit Off The Shovel

Jack Warner Lifelong Evertonian and Matt LONG SUFFERING season ticket holder, lower gwladys.

I too have moaned at Moyes and some of his decisions.Spurs last year!!
I think the two bods above need a reality check.Yes we do play crap sometimes and sometimes the players are making us proud.
Benfica game we made too many mistakes but also Benfica were the best side in Europe that we have played in the last few years. Also you can't tackle sides anymore the game has changed,European sides and Mancs, Arsenal, Chelsea love it.It's either for the good/bad of the game.
We are short of players through injury and if Nuts and Mickey were playing we would be more creativeand threatning in front of goal.
I also think Moyes is doing far better than we give credit.Ferguson and Wenger have made the same mistakes at there present teams and will carry on doing so, that is the beauty of football and you learn about your ever changing team.
Some signings may not have worked but you have to give 'em time.I honesty can say I have seen more in Billy than Hunt at Hull who we were linked with, lucky escape I'd say.
Fellini needs a Carsley next to him before he settles. I think Johny will be the answer then it will settle the team and change the way we will play though I reckon if that is the way forward for Moyes and Everton then we will need a shit of the shovel striker.
The youngsters do get a chance and more than most prem sides. Not Moyes fault if the latest crop of better youngsters are similar styles or not good enough at the time.We can just about get a first team squad together including injured players. Gone are the days of reserve player .The reserve at Everton is now the youngster waiting to progress not a Chelsea, Man city/utd, Arsenal mega squad.
Finally me thinks Villa done the correct thing and failed to reach Europa league stages, oh and they have a billionaire!Look at some of the crap been bought there the last few years.

Gone Grey

I am not going to get drawn into a war on this as I really cannot be arsed, I was merely putting my point across and a couple of morons took exception, lets deal with Tinker first! Now ginger ( if you went to a game you'd hear your moron mates singin he's got red hair but we dont care) he is not any more that's cos he's gone grey managing or trying to manage our yes OUR club. which i might add since he has taken charge we have finished with our lowest ever points tally and conceded more goals in a season than ever before! but hey he's trying! I can never remember us being mauled a lot in the past, but we regularly concede lots of goals when we get beat now! I just dont like the man. I thank him for steadying the ship but there always comes a time to move on!

I'm not in favour of the manager merry go round but how many trophyless seasons are you going to give him? He's got no money he's got no money. Sick to death of hearing that chant, you tell me any other club with "no money" that goes out and spend 15million on an un proven, no proven to be shit Belgian? No money my arse, he just spends it like its his own. Osman!!!!!! captain!!!!! Fuck right off , like i say he might look good on match of the day or you tube but trust me he is fuckin not! Hibbert is a good defender but is only playing cos we got no one else to play there! Now I know I'm never going to win against you balloon heads I may be in a minority but for how long?

Matt (LONG SUFFERING(1995 fa cup)season ticket holder)(and yes i was there)(but guess your used to shite followin shamrock rovers)

Ungrateful

I for one (and i'm sure there is many more) agree 100% with Tinker Belfast Blue's emails.

Well said lad, and much more, us true toffee's are proud of your efforts to get across and support the blues. We welcome good people over from Ireland who are passionate about the blues.
If only some of our home supporters were as passionate as you lad.
This guy Matt is a nonsense, along with anyone who agrees. The club is in the best situation it has been in for years and years. We have had so many foul times over the last decade or 2 that it makes me sick thinking about it. Relegation scrap after relegation scrap and still we have people complaining.
I ask these twats, WHO DO YOU WANT TO MANAGE THE CLUB??? if they dont like what moyes is doing.
We are not high profile enough to entice the likes of Mourinho etc.
You want Megson? Souness? Jewell?

Think before you speak you ungrateful bunch of nobheads. Moyesy has taken us very close to silver, and i'm sure if we wait a bit longer, we will get it.

Isnt it funny that a bad run of results happens, and the knives are sharpening with idiots like Matt calling for the managers head? Is that not what newcastle supporters do.

I agree with belfast blue, i am also disgusted that the likes of matt support the same club as me.

Do me a favour lad, dont voice it at the match, because if I hear you, I'm likely to respond discontently.

In Moyes we trust. Kirk. Birkenhead (09/11/09)

Quit The Negative Shit

Righty-o,

Just watched us beat the Hammers 2-1 at Upton Park, (or is that the Boelyn ground? matters not) It wasn't a pretty performance but it was 3 much needed points.

I just had the misfortune to read through reams of negative and derisory dribble penned by so called supporters'? For Christ's sake if you're going to take the time to write, make is positive, if you ain't got nothin' good to say, then it's good to say nothin'. Look, the FACT is that we are a small squad on a small budget and you cannot for one moment compare our injury crisis (and it really is a crisis) to that of Arsenal. The Gooners have 2 or more world class players for every single position and they are in a far better position vis a vis larger more experienced squad for cover than we are, they are a RICH club with established money. I cannot believe the diatribe I have just endured, nor the unbridled pessimism that seemingly abounds at present. So we got belted by Benfica...twice, They are a way better team that us at present, have no injuries and to be honest, we would still have struggled to get a result against them if we had Mikky, Nuts, Jag etc etc as they are a very classy and tidy unit. So what do we do? do we piss and moan about how the world is going to end and how its all Blue Bills fault ( And whilst I do not have a very high opinion of the man, I very seriously doubt that he actually IS the anti-Christ) or it's Moyesies fault? or do we put our hands up and say, " Hey, we got taught a lesson by a team that is capable of giving ANY team in Europe a good go?" Let's be realistic lads, shit happens from time to time...this is football. When all is said and done we are only a couple of wins outside the top 4 or 5.

Best thing we can do, is get behind the lads and HELP them through a tough time.... yeah I know you pay good money to watch, but hey, I would give my left nut to be there but I am on the other side of the planet in Australia and have to make do with staying up until 2 and 3 in the morning (and later) to watch unreliable Satellite (when I am lucky) or tune in on the World service. Take your pick, because I'd trade with any of you any time. It has been 19 years since I stood on the street end, and my beloved Everton and real Ale are the two things I miss most in the world! so for Christ's sake quit the negative shit and get behind whatever team turns out and each and every one of you, give em' a shout for me AND have an ale for me.

Kris Everton, Amongst the dust and flies of outback Western Australia (09/11/09).

Shandy Drinker

quick glance at the top few letters, a few angry comments on friends' facebook statuses and a few absolutely ridiculous comments at the Benfica game have made me do that oh-so-English anger releaser - rant in a letter.
Firstly, let's not kid ourselves, Benfica are a class act. They're not as big a club as they once were, nor, arguably, as they should be. But their sqaud, by rights, should be dicking ours. Both ties told a similar story; plucky Everton gave a spirited fight until half time, before seeming to fall apart in the second half. But to actually suggest that we'd be better to LOSE fucking games and get knocked out of European football and then feel the urge to post that for other Blues to see? Clearly, the wrong one was chosen there!

I heard a great shout in the Winslow pre-match. Maybe not the place you'd expect a bastian of knowledge and level-headedness to emerge from, but none-the-less, admist ridiculous statements such as 'lose games', 'Moyes Out' and 'Kenwright, get yer chequebook out!' came this, almost verbatim: "Mate, we're busted at the minute, our squad is depleted. As long as we scrape through the group stage, once, touch wood, Jags and Arteta are back and the inelligible players are back after Christmas, we'll have a real dig at anyone'.

What a truly great way of looking at it. It shouldn't take an Eton-educated Shandy drinker to work out that once we have our big game players back - and let's be serious again, Arteta, Neville and Jagielka are amongst our biggest - we'll be much closer to giving an accurate account of ourselves.

I read amongst the recent letters that 'injuries are a fact of footballing life and shouldn't be used as an excuse...' Firstly, let's have it right; I haven't heard any excuses from anyone associated with Everton Football Club. Moyes has cited reasons, of course, but not once has he bleated and bemoaned his luck. When a journo asks "Why did you lose today?" what is he expected to say other than the truth? He hasn't cried about the fixture list; playing away games after big European games, like a certain Member of the British Empire.

Another great shout from Thursday, this time from the Lower Gwlad, came in the form of "Don't slag off the lads on the bench. What d'ya want him to do, bring on Messi and Aguero off the bench? Just pull them out of his arsehole?"
I found it ludicrous that the fella in question had to respond to somebody bemoaning a subsitution when Agadard came on late in the Second Half.

We know the craic; it's not as if we follow Everton for the Fame and fortune. We're a massive club, yes, but we don't have a god given right to be beating teams when we are playing essentially a third string line up. Take one player out of Yanited's squad - Ronaldo - and look at their dip in performance this season compared with last and the season prior to that. Take Gerrard or Torres out of the redshite squad and we see what happens. Take Lampard out of Chelski. Not a poor team left behind, but the glue holding the team together isn't there; that's why they moved heaven and earth to keep him at the bridge, likewise Fabregas at Arse. We have lost the backbone of our team, even our squad. Our Central Clout in Jags and Neville - what would we give for another of his season-turning-Ronaldo-tackles now? - and our main attacking inspiration in Arteta, not to mention further weaknesses in defence with our inelligible European players.

As critical as we like to be over Moyes' tactics and selections, at the minute, what else would you like him to do? We quite literally are down to the bare bones.

I know I should expect knee jerk reactions and not stoop so low as to actually bother to reply to them, but they seem to be growing in their number lately, I am staggered. Maybe it's me, and maybe I'm wrong, but I definately feel there are positives to take from this current situation and I would have to say that they include fans bemoaning poor performances in European competition, as opposed to fans celebrating final day regulation avoidance. As a club, we are going forward, as a team on the pitch, there is vast improvement left, but I certainly feel more comfortable knowing that the bloke overseeing that development is David Moyes. Pembo (09/11/09)

Yellow

It would be great if we could score goals the rate we are getting yellow cards. Won't be long before most of the team are all suspended if they keep on like this. Very disappointing. I think we need to bring back our loaned out players who no doubt might show the seniors a thing or two. I dread the next prem match. Goodness knows how many we will lose by. Rooney, from the sounds of the radio commentary on the weekend, did everything but score. I would imagine he will convert many when he meets his old club, just to stick it to us. Oh dear when will we see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope we get some players back before then, at least to give us some inspiration. I wonder if we have any money to buy some players in the January window? Probably not, or we buy the dregs that will be left that no one else wants. COYB Ann (09/11/09)

Meltdown

Injuries are part of football life. They should not be used to mask the crisis that prevails at Everton this season.Other clubs have injury crisis but they seem to cope. Arsenal are a case in question. They have injuries to players like, Eduardo, Van Piersie, Nasri,Walcott and Fabregas plus they sell Adebayor and Toure and yet they still function as a footballing unit.Whether Moyes has lost the dressing room or not let us all be agreed that 4-5-1 at home against possibly lesser teams is not conducive to POSITIVE FOOTBALL. Benfica are a footballing side but a team will only be as good as you allow them to be.Teams know our weaknesses and have done for some time. The goal Wolves scored against us said it all.Forty points is usually enough to keep a team in the Premiership. There is no confidence within the team. We have had three different captains since Nev was injured. Therefore we have no leadership on the pitch.Playing Jo before Agard says so much in terms of lack of opportunity for the younger players. If football boots were shaped like backsides Jo would be fantastic. He is one of the worst players I have ever seen wearing a blue shirt in over half a century of watching Everton.

The younger element coming to the game now have not seen great football from this present set-up.The danger is that they will grow -up only having seen negativity from the uninspiring football being produced by the present squad.Ask yourselves when was the last time you clapped the opposing keeper off the pitch for having a blinder? Quite simply it does not happen because the fact is we don't have shots.Anyone could have played in goal for Benfica because there was nothing to stop.Look at the fixtures , where can you see us getting those forty points? Maybe with a Nectar card. How long will it be before they decide to accept an irrefusable offer for Jack Rodwell? It hurts to be so negative against a lifelong friend but the mess is there for all to see.All this BONDING before a game hugging and kissing each other is a complete and utter load of crap.If they were going into battle in Afghanistan I could understand it. They are going out to play a game that provides them with a fantastic living so therefore they should be enjoying the experience.Jack Warner Lifelong Evertonian (08/11/09)

Myth

I have to agree with
Matt (LONG SUFFERING season ticket holder, lower gwladys)(04/11/09) as some Evertonians delude themselves into thinking Everton at this time are a good team. What a comment from Moyes after the Benfica defeat at Goodison "we became a little open maybe trying to score in the second half" so were we not trying to score in the first half? Another point yes we have lots of injuries and untried kids on the bench so why apart from maybe Baxter are they all either defensive midfield players or defenders? dont the youth teams play with strikers?

I keep hearing Moyes as had no money 15m Felliani (waste) and 10m for Billy who in Moysies own words is not ready, a little early maybe to judge Billy but I will be surprised if he is a success, even the loan signing of Jo was a mistake, I dont think Nugent is a quality player but I can guarantee he would have offered the team a lot more than Jo. For the last 2 seasons its been obvious to everyone apart from Moyes that 5 or 6 players needed to be added, players who could challenge the likes of Osman for a starting place. I think this best sums Moyes up for me he watches Liege and chooses to spend the money on Felliani rather than Defour, now ok Defour may have also been a failure but I cant believe he is as poor as Felliani, and no I thought he was shit last season as well but the goals he scored kept him in the side, I keep hoping he will come good but its time to face the truth over a year he has been at Everton and I have not seen him have more than a handfull of good games infact I reckon I would beat him in a sprint.

I mean the last 3 games we have played I doubt the oppositions keepers have had to make 3 saves between them and that includes the so called improvement against Villa. We dont look like scoring a goal never mind winning a game, the game against Benfica was the first time I have ever seen a English team struggle physically in Europe, them players had a chance to put some pride back into the jersey as I believe Benfica were there for the taking (they were just as bad for a hour) yet on going a goal down they were feeling sorry for themselves which makes my blood boil. I am not stupid enough to think Moyes should be sacked but if poor decisions are not contested then how can they ever be put right? When it comes to spending Evertons money on players i dont trust anyone i wait for performances on the pitch not believing the myth that if Moyes signed him he must be good. Hank(08/11/09)

Nails On A Blackboard

I just read that Jagielka's knee cartilage is delaying his comeback. This is the week that we found out Arteta's knee is/was infected, which will delay his return considerably also. I don't want to bemoan our luck or talk about "pulling together", which to be honest is becoming increasingly like listening to someone scratching their nails on a blackboard. Moyes recently mentioned that he thinks our busy schedule is affecting results. I'd be interested to know how frequently rotating sides suffer injuries compared to non-rotating sides. Is it really bad luck or actually fairly natural that small squads suffer more severe injuries? The last few years we have been heavily dependent on a small group to often play in 4 competitions, and anyone who says " but they are professional athletes, blah blah blah" is underestimating how much pressure professional football puts on the human body. Ignorance isn't the word. Maybe it's time Moyes bought some filler players, and accepted that we can't carry on only signing potential stars.

Cheers, Tony (08/11/09)

Magic Sponge

OK so we were totally outclassed in both games by Benfica but there is something that can be done! Blue Bill needs to get his hand in his arse pocket and buy Mick Rathbone one of those sponges that the Benfica physio was using. It seems that it can heal gun shot wounds in a mere minute!

Steve from Blackpool (08/11/09)

Shambolic

After watching what was probably the worst Everton team I have been unprivelaged to see in a European Cup tie in over 40 years tonight. Can I suggest to Kenwright that he orders Moyes to play the under 13s team for the remaining fixtures of this competition (or have they got injured as well) so that we crash out before we play a Champions League team at the next stage. Please lose those games Everton because we will need every fit player to keep us in the Premiership.over the coming months.

.How much longer will you 'True Blues' put up with the shambolic situation that you are allowing to continue at this club? My God that was so embarassing, the gulf in class was horrible to see. Lets hope Mick Rathbone has some good news soon....I am praying that about 3 or 4 other crap players will soon be fit, yer you might not like it but it's true. Jo? Come back Bernie Wright all is forgiven. Malcolm Murphy (08/11/09)

Just A Stutter

Matt (LONG SUFFERING season ticket holder), you took a bit of a pasting in the last few days and in some ways unfairly. You're right that playing lots of games is a sign of success, and should be welcomed (in a way), but I think to be fair to David Moyes, the fact we have a long and in some ways crippling (no pun intended) injury list, combined with the fact he perceived other sides who'd played on Sunday were being given consideration Everton weren't, caused him to blow his top a bit. I agree that it was an overreaction, but given the way things have started for us this season, I reckon we can forgive him feeling the pressure a bit, no?

I also agree with you about the Carling Cup. We should play to the best of our ability in every competition we're in, and that includes the man who picks the team, as well as the squad on the pitch and bench. But to be fair, I don't think we have deliberately picked a weakened team for any match we've played - I think we HAVE a weakened team. There are maybe a few reasons for that, but to start with:

Unlike the relatively short list you made in your last e-mail, I reckon it's fair to say we are missing/have missed IN RECENT GAMES: Jags (our best centre-back), Yobo (our only remaining fully settled centreback, only out for Benfica, but that was one of our two worst displays of the season), Hibbert (first or second choice right back, especially given Heitinga plays across a few positions and hasn't been here long enough to be considered settled), Neville (team captain and our best defensive midfielder), Osman (second in line for captaincy and one of relatively few truly creative players we have in midfield at the moment. I agree he's not always on fire, but we need him now more than ever), Arteta (enough said), Pienaar (our second-best creative midfielder by some distance - his absence along with Mikky and Leon means only Bily, who again has not been here long, is expected to carry the majority of our creative play), Fellaini (say what you like about him, he's proved effective all over the centre of the pitch in the last year, and while he's played through pain, it can't be helping him to perform at his best) The Yak (back now, but still not all the way there), Saha (only out intermittently, but he's our second-best forward). You may argue that Anichebe and Vaughn are squad players, but that's what squad players are for - so there's a replacement if your first choices are injured. So that's 12 players who could expect to start, or at least be in contention and on the bench, who are either not playing or are playing injured. At a push, you could even throw in Lescott, who was definitely part of Moyes' plans for the season and threw us into chaos for a while. Maybe Moyes could have handled that better, but the way City behaved there made a bad situation worse and I think had Moyes said 'OK we'll sell him' as soon as City made a bid we'd all be wondering about whether we're just a selling club.

You can talk about a need to build a squad, and Moyes has had some time to do that, but we're not Liverpool. We can't afford to throw £150m+ at 30+ players in five years (that's not including wages either), like they can. We also can't afford 50-60 per cent of them to be too bad to play for us (again unlike Liverpool). I do find that frustrating, like most of us do, but it's where we are at the moment and although we all hope it'll change, it's hardly Moyes' fault.

It's also frustrating to see us fail to chase games we should be winning and that's partially because Moyes can be pretty defensively-minded. But again, this season what are we supposed to do? We just haven't got top quality attacking players sitting around waiting to come on. It's all well and good playing three up front (and like you there are times I've been howling for it) but if the midfielders aren't there to supply them, or if, as in some cases, we've not had three fit strikers available to play, then what are we supposed to do?

Moyes isn't perfect and neither is the club we love. But to be fair, we're a lot closer than we were when he started, and we have it in us to improve, not least when we get our team back. As a long-suffering season ticket holder, you, like me, will remember the majority of the 90s, losing to Portsmouth in front of 16,000, abominable 0-0s with Coventry City and not one but two last-day escapes from relegation. We're better than that now. This has been a frustrating couple of months, but we're better than we were, and this is a blip in our continuing improvement. By all means feel p*ssed off when we play badly and get battered, but don't forget how far we've come. We're still on the way up, this is just a stutter on the way...

Over and out

Matt, you really are a silly silly boy.

You have no idea.

You are a pesimistic prick, and you do nothing but bag the club and manager who has taken Everton to unbelievable heights with the resources the club has available. I'll tell you this also, you are in the severe minority with your comments about Moyes. You are an absolute disgrace and I am frankly disgusted that I support the same football club as you.

Go support Man City, please Matt, please. They have plenty of money, can buy the highest profile players, and a lot of wank-a-dog moaning twat supporters like yourself who believe success and silverware is owed and not gained. Not too much further to travel for you either. The manager doesn't have red hair either which puzzlingly enough seems to disgust you.

As for the injuries, you'll give me Arteta, Jagielka, Pienaar?? What about our skipper or Osman...Oh, let me guess.... you are one of those pricks who shout at them every week and let them know they arent good enough either instead of getting behind what we've got. I reckon i'm spot on there.
And how about the people who were missing and have just started back, Yakubu, Yobo, and Baines.
Still struggling to think???
Victor and Vaughan have been out for a while, and certainly one will turn into a decent player. Admittedly they are squad players at present but are handy to have around for 'dead rubber games' such as your beloved Carling Cup and some european games when we have already qualified etc etc.

As for your moronic comments about it being the managers fault we have not got a big enough squad, you think the money comes out of Moyes' pocket? HOW CAN HE BUY PLAYERS IF THE BOARD WON'T GIVE HIM THE FUNDS? (shout) IT'S NOT HIS FAULT YOU IDIOT. WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY. You would like him to pay cheap money for players of the same quality as Victor Anichebe or James Vaughan as you mentioned before? You want him to fill up the squad with Kilbane's/Bent's/ Castillo's again? Personally, I would rather give our youth a run out and some experience, we are probably better off for it in the long run.

And how dare you call into question my support for Everton. I have been following this team all my life and travel from Belfast to around 7/8 Goodison games per year which is (believe it or not) a pretty costly experience. Granted, i'm not a season ticket holder, but I do my best every season with the money i earn from my living. You may go to more live games than me, but it definately does not make you any better supporter than me. BTW, shamrock rovers are not a belfast club, you shoulda tried Glentoran or Linfield. And premiership plus is a much better option than match of the day. You get about an hour of the game and don't have to watch Liverpool or Man Utd or Chelsea while you wait for Evertons 5 minutes at the end. (just a helpful tip for you)

In conclusion, you are a creep,I wish you didn't support Everton and i'm sure the vast majority of True Everton fans will agree with all I have said.

Please feel free to continue to embarass yourself with another reply of moronic garbage which doesnt make sense.

Over and out,

Tinker (can't afford to travel over to Goodison every game therefore must be a shit supporter) from Belfast (not home of Shamrock Rovers)(08/11/09)
